What happens when you bring together leading researchers, innovative companies and support organisations from four European countries around a shared challenge? Marine science stops living in laboratories and starts generating real market value. That is exactly what MARINNONET has been building for the past two years.
MARINNONET has just published its pilot projects booklet: a clear and accessible document capturing the concrete solutions being developed to transform the blue bioeconomy of the Atlantic Area. A portfolio of 16 market-driven pilot projects, developed through transregional partnerships and backed by targeted funding.
Implemented at Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) 4 to 6, each pilot brings together scientific partners from two regions and a local innovator, demonstrating how collaboration can translate research into practical, scalable solutions.
Three thematic areas, 16 solutions
Sustainable and resilient Aquaculture (6 projects)
– FUNCTIONALGAE
– ULVACEL
– Kelp-Secure
– COLORHYNCHUS
– LEPISOSSEL
– COAST
Omics and Marine Biodiversity Observation (2 projects)
– ToMostFish
– AI_BIOdiv
Marine-Derived Products for Industry (8 projects)
– KelPet
– MiTOxin
– ALGACAP
– POLYSAL
– FishSkinRefinery
– ALGAEMAT
– POLYMEX
– SUNPALM
These projects are proof that connecting innovation ecosystems across borders accelerates the development of market-ready solutions and reinforces the Atlantic Area’s position as a hub for marine bio-based innovation.
The booklet brings together both the first call projects, already completed with their full results, and the second call projects, launched in January 2025 and currently underway. A living document that reflects the real state of the project and the road ahead.
